The course is designed to meet the shortage of skills in this field as the technology permeates an ever-increasing range of applications in science, industry and public services.

Teaching is organised in intensive one-week modules with around 20 hours of lectures, plus seminars, example and laboratory classes, and tutorial work.

Modules are as follows:

  • Fundamentals of Satellite Positioning
  • Advanced Satellite Positioning Systems
  • Satellite Positioning System Design
  • Navigation Systems & Integration
  • Analytical Methods
  • Geodetic Reference Systems
  • Practical Field Course
  • A project/dissertation (MSc only)
  • One optional module chosen from Physical Geodesy, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, Digital Charting, Navigation Management
  • The course is accredited by the RICS and ICES.
